The purpose-built Gem Centre opened in April 2006.  It brings together services provided by Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust and Wolverhampton City Council for children and young people up to the age of 19, including some who may have special needs and/or disabilities.

Children's services operating from the Gem Centre: Gem Centre

  • Child development centre

  • School nursing service
  • Parent Partnership Service

What if your child is seen at school and at home?
Some services are based at the Gem Centre but will continue to provide support in the community (e.g. at school).

Co-ordination of appointments to reduce the number of visits
If you need to see more than one person, we will, where possible, try and offer more than one appointment during a single visit to the centre.  This will mean fewer clinic visits and less disruption to your child's routine.

Family facilities
Parents and carers helped to plan the family facilities within the Centre. Age-appropriate waiting areas and specialist facilities for disabled children are available in, addition to:

  • Disabled toilets with hoist facilities
  • Specialist feeding room
  • Parent and baby facilities

Mother and Baby - GemThe Parent Partnership Service
The Parent Partnership Service are an independent service offering information, support and impartial advice to parents and carers of children with special educational needs and/or a disability.

For further information on the Parent Partnership Service contact 01902 556945 or visit the Parent Information Centre on the first floor or see the Parent Partnership section on Wolverhampton City Council's website.

Modern and fully-equipped clinical and therapy suites
The professionals working with your child will be using the latest technology in modern facilities.

Information for Parents and Carers using the Gem Centre
We believe that good communication between the specialists and therapists is very important and so we have developed a single health record that can be seen by all services.

This means that you should not be asked the same questions many times.  Only professionals involved with your child will view the record and all are bound by professional codes of confidentiality.

If you have any concerns about sharing information with any children's services, please discuss this with the health professional during your appointment.
